Born in Eastern Europe, OSO's early childhood was marked by a sense of impermanence. His family, driven by a desire for greater freedom and opportunity, left Eastern Europe when he was young. Their journey was not a direct one to the United States. Instead, they spent several years moving between various Southern and Western European cities, and then spent time in Scandinavia, each offering a unique cultural experience that left its mark on young OSO.
This nomadic period of his life deeply influenced his artistic development. He absorbed the diverse architectural styles, the vibrant street art, and the rich artistic traditions of each city he lived in. He learned to appreciate the beauty in unexpected places, the stories etched into the facades of old buildings, and the power of art to transcend cultural boundaries.
Eventually, the family settled in Miami, Florida. The city's dazzling light, its tropical landscape, and its bustling multiculturalism created a stark contrast to the European cities OSO had known. Yet, he found a resonance here, a sense of energy and possibility that sparked his creative spirit.
It was in Miami that OSO discovered his passion for stainless steel as an artistic medium. He was drawn to its inherent strength, its reflective qualities, and its capacity to be molded into a seemingly infinite range of forms. He began to experiment with the material, and developing his own distinct artistic style.
His sculptures often explore themes of movement, displacement, and the search for identity. They reflect the transient nature of his early life, the blending of cultures he experienced, and the process of finding a sense of belonging in a new land. His works often feature intricate patterns, geometric shapes, and a sense of dynamic energy, capturing the essence of his own journey of adaptation and transformation.
His work resonates with those who have experienced and overcome challenges, those who have sought a new beginning, and those who appreciate the power of art to illuminate the human experience. As a testament to his growing international acclaim, his sculptures have found homes in private collections around the globe, from the vibrant art scenes of Miami, Dubai and New York City to the cultural capitals of Paris and Mexico City, earning him recognition for his artistic vision, and his ability to connect with audiences on an emotional level.
Artist's Statement
"My sculptures are a reflection of my personal journey, a dialogue between the different worlds I have inhabited. The memories of my childhood in Eastern Europe, the diverse cultural influences of my time in Southern Europe, Western Europe, Scandinavia, and the vibrant energy of Miami all find expression in my art. I am fascinated by the interplay of past and present, the ways in which our experiences shape our identity, and the process of finding our place in the world. Stainless steel, with its strength, its versatility, and its capacity to capture and reflect light, provides the perfect medium to explore these themes. I want my work to evoke a sense of connection, to inspire dialogue, and to invite viewers to reflect on their own journeys of transformation."
